A Career Guidance session titled “Been There Done That Series-7” was organized
by the department on 31st January 2026, where distinguished alumni—Dr. Mehul
Rajpurkar, Head (Medico Marketing), Reliance MedLab, Ms. Gauri Chemburkar
(Food Industry professional), Ms. Kiran Mishra (PhD Scholar, IIT Bombay), and Ms.
Abhilasha Jadhav (Paralegal, S&R Associates)—interacted with UG and PG students
and shared insights into their career journeys.
An Interaction Session titled “From Classroom to Career” was organized by the
department on 3rd January 2026, where distinguished alumnus Ebrahim Takulla,
NERC–CENTA PhD Researcher at the University of Warwick, School of Life
Sciences, interacted with students and shared insights into his academic and
professional journey.
‘Natural selection’ event organised as a part of ‘Sci-Code 25:The Department of
Microbiology organized an event titled “Natural Selection – Wit Wins” under Sci-Code#25 for undergraduate students. Designed as a quiz competition, the event aimed to foster critical thinking, scientific reasoning, and quick decision-making. It served as an engaging platform for academic competition while reinforcing core microbiology concepts through an interactive and stimulating format.
The Department of Microbiology organized an event “Microfiesta” for the undergraduate participants under Sci-Code#25. The event was a model-making competition with an objective of encouraging undergraduate students to explore and present microbiological concepts in a creative and practical manner. The event aimed to provide a platform for students to apply their theoretical knowledge and enhance their scientific communication skills. Mr. Dilip Ramrakhiyani, Vice-Principal of K. C. College, served as the esteemed judge for the event. The presentations were widely praised by both the judges and the audience for their originality and clarity, making the event a successful academic initiative that encouraged creativity, teamwork, and a deeper understanding of the subject.
A visit to ACTREC was organized on 4th December 2025 for TYBSc students (15),
during which students visited the molecular biology laboratories (proteomics and
genomics), bioinformatics lab, MALDI-TOF facility, electron microscopy unit, animal house, CAR-T cell therapy department, and stem cell department, and
also attended a poster presentation session.
An industrial visit to Amritsar–Manali–Chandigarh was organized from 1st to 8th
November 2025 with a total participation of 57 students (FY Biotech: 18, SY Biotech:
15, TY Biotech: 12, TY Micro: 4, M.Sc. Micro: 8). The students visited EG
Pharmaceuticals, Chandigarh, where they learned about drug processing and vial
packaging, and Verka Dairy, Chandigarh, where the process of milk pasteurization
and tetra-packaging was demonstrated.
A visit to the National Institute for Research in Reproductive and Child Health
(NIRRCH) was organized on 4th September 2025 for M.Sc. Part I students (12),
during which the students visited the Molecular Biology Laboratory and the Microbiology Laboratory, including demonstrations of fluorescent microscopy
techniques, PCR, VITEK System etc.
The department organized a visit to Central Institute of Fisheries Education (CIFE) on
28th July 2025 for SY, TY, and M.Sc. Part II students (50 students), during which they
visited the genetics laboratory, aquaponics unit, molecular biology laboratory, and
nutrition division.
A Career Guidance session titled “Been There Done That Series-6” was organised
by the department. Our prestigious alumni Ms. Uzma Shaikh, Project Scientific
Assistant-B, TIFR; Ms. Sweccha Soni, Product Developer, Mondelez; Ms. Jagruti
Kharat, Research Associate, Haystack Analytics Pvt Ltd interacted and discussed their
career paths with the UG and PG students on 5th April, 2025.
A one-day training program at Anchrom Pvt. Ltd. on 29th March 2025 was conducted
for 19 MSc Microbiology students, where they gained practical insights into
chromatographic techniques and their applications in microbiological analysis.
On 31st August 2024, 10 TYBSc Microbiology students visited the Tata Institute of
Fundamental Research (TIFR), where they were introduced to cutting-edge research
and advanced laboratory techniques in the field of microbiology.
On 20th August 2024, 19 MSc Microbiology students visited the National Institute of
Research in Reproductive and Child Health (NIRRCH), where they gained valuable
exposure to ongoing research in reproductive health, and child development.
On 6th August 2024, 29 SYBSc and TYBSc Microbiology students visited Katraj
Dairy in Pune, where they explored the microbiological aspects of dairy processing
and quality control practices.
Visited to National Centre for Cell Science (NCCS), Pune was conducted on 6th
August 2024 for 29 students SYBSc and TYBSc Microbiology students where they
gained valuable exposure to advanced cell biology research and laboratory practices.
Dr. Vikrant Bhor, Scientist E, Head Department of Molecular Immunology and
Microbiology delivered a talk on ‘Harnessing the Microbiome: A new frontier in
the battle against Multi Drug Resistance’ in collaboration with IWSA, attended by
50 students from SYBSc, TYBSc, and MSc Microbiology held on 16th July 2024.
The session provided valuable insights and encouraged academic engagement across
all levels.
A visit to Sanjay Gandhi National Park was organised on 6th July 2024 for 45 SYBSc
and TYBSc Microbiology students gaining insights into biodiversity in a natural
ecosystem.
