Jigyaasa –SHP, one of the main research activity, It is an initiative started bt K.C College, to enable research at the undergraduate level. With a motto of “Lab to Life”, jigyaasa has reached its 16th year. It received funding from the Department of Biotechnology(Govt of India). Under the star college Scheme, from the academic year 2016-2017, and DBT star college status from the academic year2019-2020. It received a positive impetus and improvement of quality and number of research projects, conducted under jigyaasa-SHP program for Batch XV and XVI.
SHP Batch XVI was inaugurated on 14 th October 2019 where Principal, Dr. Hemlata Bagla flagged off the new batch XVI with her talk on sensitization of youth on various social issues, she also spoke about the steps in Research which outlined the mantra of the successful research project. The chief guest of the inauguration ceremony was Dr. Sunita Shailajan, a renowned scientist from Ramnarain Ruia College. The topic of the speech that was delivered by her was “Research methodology.” The important points highlighted by her were. Never make big claims in research and the point was that Always validate your work.
A ten-day Autumn school was organized for students of batch XVI between 14 th October 2019 and 19th October 2019. The different topics covered during this winter school were divided into research-related ones and soft skill development. Soft skilled training involved modules on, Advanced communication skills (Ms. Shweta Raina), Word Press(Mr. Maunash Jani) Grooming, etiquette and attire(Ms Seema Lahiri) Goal setting (Dr Vineet Agrawal) , the other modules were Stem cell transplant (Dr. Praveen clement) , Guidelines for literature review(Mr Mayuresh Joshi),Cyber security(Mr Sachin Dedhia Gender senstitisation (Adv Kamayani).
Research methodology, an important research-related training session was conducted by research mentor jigyaasa shp program for last 14 years, Dr Vivek Patkar. He discussed the principles of the research process such as parallel activities, transparency, analysis, and data limits. After this session students designed their research projects with inputs from their individual mentor teachers and started their research projects. Some of the projects designed by the students are “Microbial techniques to determine the action of vitamins on acne for skin treatment.” , Detection and estimation of nicotine in toothpaste.”,”To study the chemical and physical properties of spices and condiments and to extract essential oil from certain spices.”
The SHP students have also prepared the newsletters for their departments. The summer school for shp was held between 10 th April 2020 and 2 and May 2020. The different modules included Corporate Etiquettes (Ms. Manisha Mishra), advanced Communication skills( Mr. Martin Ebenezer), Essentials of academic writing (Dr. Ishita Ghosh), Origami. Technological communication for research(Dr. Radhika Tendulkar and Dr. Maya Murdeshwar ), Ergonomics( Dr. Jonika Shroff), Understanding google data studio as a research tool (Mr. Abhijeet Gole). All these modules were conducted on the digital platform.
